Granite Cryptograms
Each puzzle is a short, true line about New Hampshire with every letter swapped for another. Work out the code one letter at a time to read about mill towns, notches, ice out and town meeting. There's a new puzzle every day and six packs to work through, and your progress stays on your device.

How to play
Tap a blank to pick it, then tap a letter on the keyboard below the puzzle. Your guess fills every blank over the same cipher letter. Letters you've used are marked on the keyboard. Check marks wrong guesses in red, and Hint shows the right letter for the blank you're on.
- The code
- Every letter in the line stands for a different letter, and no letter stands for itself. The same code letter always means the same real letter, so once you know one, it fills in everywhere. Spaces and punctuation are shown as they are.
- Difficulty
- Easy starts with about two letters in five already filled in, Medium with about one in five, and Hard with none. Given letters are green and can't be changed. Changing the difficulty starts the puzzle over.
- Checking and hints
- Check marks wrong letters with a red slash, and each one counts as a mistake. A hint fills in the right letter for the blank you've selected, everywhere it appears, and marks it with a green corner.
- Today and the packs
- Everyone gets the same puzzle each day, by the New Hampshire date. The packs cover history, the mountains, the lakes and seacoast, the seasons, New Hampshire firsts, and sayings and town life. Puzzles with a quotation show who said it once you've solved them.
- Counting letters
- Counts shows how often each code letter appears. In English the most common letters are usually E, T, A and O, which is a good place to start.
- The clock
- The clock starts with your first guess, stops while the tab is in the background, and stops for good when the puzzle is solved.
