Granite Mahjong

Loading Granite Mahjong…

Mahjong solitaire with a bit of New Hampshire on every tile: moose, loons, lighthouses, sap buckets, cider donuts. The tiles are stacked in layouts named for the places they look like, from the peak of Mount Washington to a covered bridge and the Old Man's profile. Take matching pairs off the board until it's clear. Every deal can be cleared. There's a new deal every day, the same for everyone, and free play on any layout.

How to play

Tap a bright tile to select it, then tap another with the same picture to take both off. Dim tiles are blocked. The line above the board counts the pairs left and the matches open right now. Hint, Undo and Shuffle sit under the board. On a phone held upright, wide layouts turn a quarter to fit.

Free tiles
A tile is free when no tile lies on top of it and its left side or its right side is open. Free tiles are bright; blocked ones are dimmed.
Pairs
Select two free tiles with the same picture to take them off the board. Each picture comes in sets of four. Clear every tile to win. Every deal can be cleared, but some orders lead to a dead end.
Tools
Hint shows one open pair. Undo puts the last pair back. When no matches are open, Shuffle deals the pictures left on the board again so it can still be cleared. Each tool is free once per deal; after that each use takes a hint.
Today and free play
Everyone gets the same Today deal on the same New Hampshire date, and the layout changes each day. In free play, pick any of the eight layouts and play its numbered deals, new or again. Your progress stays on your device.
Questions

About Granite Mahjong

Is Granite Mahjong free?

Yes. Granite Mahjong is free to play in your browser, with no account and nothing to download.

When does the daily deal change?

A new deal comes out at midnight New Hampshire time (Eastern time), and everyone gets the same one on the same date. If you have the page open at midnight, reload it to get the new one. The layout changes each day too.

Which tiles can I take?

A tile is free when nothing lies on top of it and its left or right side is open. Free tiles are bright and blocked ones are dimmed. Take two free tiles with the same picture to clear them.

Can every deal be cleared?

Yes, but some orders lead to a dead end. When no matches are open, Undo or Shuffle gets you going again.

How do Hint, Undo and Shuffle work?

Hint shows an open pair, Undo puts the last pair back, and Shuffle deals the pictures left on the board again. Each is free once per deal, and after that each use takes a hint. If you see a hint count, each puzzle comes with three hints, and a short ad adds three more when they run out. If there's no ad to show, you get the hint anyway.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Tap a bright tile, then tap its match. On a phone held upright, wide layouts turn a quarter to fit, and the game tells you when it has. Your progress is saved in this browser on this device. There are no accounts, so it doesn't follow you to another device, and clearing the browser's data for the site erases it.
