Summit
Guess the day's five-letter word in six tries. Each guess climbs one switchback up the trail, from 1,000 feet toward a 6,288-foot summit, and every letter is marked: green for the right spot, gold for in the word but somewhere else, gray for not in the word. Some words have a New Hampshire feel, like maple, notch and cairn. There's a new word every day, the same for everyone, and the last two weeks are here too.

Tap letters on the keyboard under the board, then tap Enter. The tiles turn over one at a time to show their marks, and the keyboard keeps track of what you've learned about each letter. The first guess goes on the bottom row and each one after it climbs a row higher. Hint shows one letter of the word in its right spot.
- The marks
- Green means the letter is in the word in that spot. Gold means it's in the word in another spot. Gray means it isn't in the word, or the word has no more copies of it. A word with a doubled letter gets one mark per copy in the answer, so two Ls in your guess against one L in the word means only one L is marked.
- Guesses
- Each guess has to be a real five-letter word on our list. Answers are common words with no plurals ending in S.
- Hard mode
- In hard mode every guess has to use what you've found: green letters stay in their spots and gold letters go somewhere in the word. Turn it on or off before your first guess of the day.
- Hints
- A hint shows one letter of the word in its right spot, one you haven't found yet. In hard mode a hinted letter has to stay in its spot too.
- Today and past days
- Everyone gets the same word on the same New Hampshire date. Past days holds the last two weeks. Your stats count every word you finish, and your streak counts days you solved on the day. Your progress stays on your device.
About Summit
Is Summit free?
Yes. Summit is free to play in your browser, with no account and nothing to download.
When does the word change?
A new word comes out at midnight New Hampshire time (Eastern time), and everyone gets the same one on the same date. If you have the page open at midnight, reload it to get the new one.
Can I play past words?
Yes. Past days holds the last two weeks of words. They count toward your stats, but only words solved on their own day count toward your streak.
How do hints work?
A hint shows one letter of the word in its right spot, one you haven't found yet. In hard mode a hinted letter has to stay in that spot. If you see a hint count, each puzzle comes with three hints, and a short ad adds three more when they run out. If there's no ad to show, you get the hint anyway.
What is hard mode?
In hard mode every guess has to use what you've found: green letters stay in their spots and gold letters go somewhere in the word. You can only turn it on or off before your first guess of the day.
Can I share my result without giving away the word?
Yes. The share button gives your climb as rows of colored squares with no letters, and a line with how high you got.
